Drifter Gallery

The “Art Farmer”

Located at 54 Main Street, Drifter is a primary coordinate for those seeking art with a rugged, folk-inspired edge. Functioning as a combined gallery, retail space, and studio, the shop is a visual extension of its owner’s prolific creative output, blending traditional hand-made screen prints with experimental mixed media on salvaged metal.

The Owner: Andy Herod

Andy Herod is a self-taught illustrator, painter, and print-maker whose “maverick spirit” has led him through several creative chapters. Before establishing Drifter in Bisbee, Andy was a prominent figure in the Asheville, North Carolina, art and music scenes. He is also well-known as the frontman for the indie-rock band Electric Owls.

Andy describes his work as reinterpreting “invisible realms” to unite different dimensions. His style blends classical portraiture with contemporary, sometimes “weird” subjects, like his famous series based on Facebook profile pictures. He identifies as a “Humble American Art Farmer”, emphasizing a gritty, hands-on approach to creation that values the texture of salvaged materials as much as the images themselves.

Original Art on Unique Substrates

Andy Herod’s work is unmistakable—he often paints and prints on antique metal scraps, salvaged shelving, and oak ply. His subjects range from animal portraits to “haunted projections from invisible realms”.

Screen Prints & Apparel

The shop offers a wide array of hand-made screen prints on card stock and one-of-a-kind apparel, including the popular Drifter hoodies and art-focused bandanas.

Oddities & Collectibles

Beyond wall art, look for geodesic skulls, custom stickers, and “oddities” that reflect Andy’s interest in the intersection of the natural and the surreal.
