Mel’s Bisbee Bodega is a centrally located convenience store and gift shop situated within the historic Phelps Dodge Building (Bisbee Convention Center). Often described as a modern mercantile, it serves as a vital resource for both locals and tourists in the heart of Old Bisbee.

Managed by owner Mel Sowid, who established the business on New Year’s Eve 2015, the bodega was created to fill a void for basic necessities in the downtown area. 

The Bisbee Bodega is a unique and centrally located one-stop shop that blends the convenience of a general store with the eclectic charm of a local gift shop.

The shop is well-stocked with “incidentals” such as phone chargers, sunblock, bug repellent, and over-the-counter mini-drug items like aspirin and bandaids.

Beyond essentials, it carries an eclectic mix of “touristy” and unique items, including local handmade jewelry, “crazy hats,” postcards, and Murano glass necklaces.

It is particularly noted for its curated selection of cigars, complete with on-site humidor and smoking accessories like cutters and lighters.

• Hours: They are very consistent, usually open daily from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (and staying open until 8:00 PM on Friday and Saturday).
• Location: You’ll find it at 2 Main St, in the Mercantile Building.
• Payment: They accept credit cards and Apple Pay, but keep in mind there is usually a small surcharge (around 3%) for card use. Bringing a bit of cash is a good way to save a couple of bucks.
