Bisbee Books & Music

Records, Reads and Rebellion

Bisbee Books & Music is an independent bookstore and cultural staple located in the historic Phelps Dodge Building (also known as the Mercantile Building) at the foot of Main Street. Under the new ownership of Erik and Melissa as of January 2025, the shop has revitalized its mission to serve as a community sanctuary for readers, musicians, and artists alike.

Erik Holland from Bismarck, N.D., is the new owner of Bisbee Books and Music, having purchased the store in early 2025 from previous owners Ken and Craig, who moved to Portugal.

The shop is celebrated for its eclectic and community-informed stock including a vast collection of books dedicated to Bisbee’s history, ghost stories, and regional Southwest authors.

Best-selling mystery author J.A. Jance has deep roots in Bisbee, Arizona, where she moved with her family in 1949 at age four.

Notable curated displays include a prominent “Banned Books” section, as well as specialized categories for paranormal activity and contemporary world issues.

The inventory includes vinyl records (and players), musical instrument accessories, art supplies, and a robust selection of children’s toys and games.

Bisbee Books & Music is more than a retail space; it functions as a social center for the town’s creative population. The store frequently hosts the “Artist Series,” featuring weekly book signings, readings, and appearances by resident authors.
